In 1928 the equestrian bronze statue seated on rocks that can be seen today was emplaced. In it, General San Martin raises his right arm pointing the way that made the Army of the Andes to free the peoples of South America control the crown of Spain.
The Cathedral of St. Rafael construction began in 1935 and was inaugurated in 1952, responding to the needs of much of the population. It is a modern, neo-romantic architecture located opposite the Plaza San Martín, to the right of the Cathedral is the Torre San Marco, which was donated by the Viñuela family in 1952. This holy church was the main church of the department to designation as a cathedral in 1961 when the Diocese of San Rafael is created by Pope John XXIII.
